Project Description
The N17 /N18 Gort to Tuam PPP Scheme is approximately 57 km in length and commences at the northern extremity of the N18 Gort Crusheen scheme which is currently under construction. The road is expected to extend in a northerly direction with junctions at: Kiltiernan connecting to the N67; Rathmorrissy connecting to the new N6 Dublin Galway Route; Annagh Hill connecting to the N63; and Kilmore south of Tuam, connecting to the existing N17. The road will be of motorway standard from Gort to the junction at Kilmore near Tuam, a distance of 53.2 kilometres.
The road is then expected to continue with a dual carriageway type 2 cross section on a route passing to the west of Tuam town, to its termination point on the N17 north of Tuam at Mountpotter, a distance of 4.2 kilometres.
The Project is anticipated to include the following principal features:
- Three grade separated junctions at Kiltiernan (N67), Rathmorrissy (N6), and Annagh Hill (N63), and a roundabout junction at Kilmore (N17);
- Two Railway Bridges – one over the live Galway-Dublin line and the second over the currently disused Athenry-Claremorris line near Tuam;
- Five River Bridges over the Clarinbridge, Dunkellin, Abbert, Grange and Nanny Rivers;
- Thirty-one Road Bridges; and
- Twelve minor structures, such as accommodation underpasses and culverts.
The construction of the N17/N18 Gort to Tuam Scheme was carried out under a public-private partnership (PPP) contract with CH2M Barry acting as Designer, as part of a Design Joint Venture), to the three delivery partners. The scope of CH2M Barry services included full design of the permanent Works along with site supervision.
